The Russell PneumoFix®-8 needle is a sterile decompression needle, consisting of a Veress tip needle inserted through an 8 cm catheter and fitted with a low-pressure relief valve.

The Veress tip and indicator device aid in safe insertion with minimal risk of injury to the underlying lung, while the low-pressure relief valve allows for release of a tension pneumothorax with minimal potential for subsequent air re-entry.
